Compass Paperweight

Regular price $45.00

A decorative vintage-style brass compass acts as a paperweight. On a light green background, black numbers and the designation of parts of the world are clearly visible. Glass protects against dust. The inscription on the metal edge reads: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step."

Compass from the Latin word "passus" - step - opened the world to research and discovery. The principle of operation of the magnetic needle was known to the Chinese as early as the 3rd century BC and was first used by feng shui priests to tell them where and how to build. Around the year 1000, Chinese sailors adapted it for maritime navigation.

The first compasses were a magnetic needle floating in a bowl of water, suspended on a thread or threaded through a reed. The Arabs improved this device by installing an arrow on a rod. In Europe, the compass appeared between the 10th and 11th centuries, allowing navigators to cross oceans and explorers to discover continents.

A stylish paperweight not only has aesthetic appeal, but also securely holds documents, charts and maps in place during use. It will look great on the desk in the office.
